Teamsters 362
Today is International Workers’ Day, or May Day. Together with other unions and working people across the globe, the Teamsters Union celebrates the power and solidarity of workers worldwide. May Day began as an American holiday commemorating the struggle of workers who fought for an 8-hour day in 1886. Today it is celebrated in every country, and our union is proud to be part of this tradition and this history. This May Day is all the more significant in the wake of major labor movement victories and ongoing battles for worker power in the U.S. and around the world. Last year, Teamsters made history by winning the strongest collective bargaining agreement ever for more than 300,000 UPS Teamsters, mounting a credible strike threat that secured groundbreaking wins in the new contract. The year also saw an historic wave of strikes involving UAW members at the Big Three, SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild members. The first-ever strike by Amazon Teamster delivery drivers continues, with picket lines that have been extended to dozens of Amazon facilities nationwide over the past year. Teamsters are building worker power at Amazon and winning significant legislative victories for workers in states across the country. This year, Anheuser Busch Teamsters held practice pickets and won a strong contract covering 5,000 members. Meanwhile, for more than two months, Texas Teamsters continue to hold the line in the strike for a fair contract at Molson Coors. Hollywood Teamsters are at the bargaining table fighting for a strong contract for members of Local 399. Our brothers and sisters in the UAW are making history by opening up new fronts for labor organizing in the south and new Teamster organizing efforts are also underway in airline, cannabis, DHL, health care, passenger transportation, and the warehouse industry. While corporate criminals and bosses all over the world are getting richer and more ruthless, they have failed to stamp out the labor movement because the collective power of workers is unstoppable. Today, we celebrate our victories and continue the fight. ✊✊✊ See MoreSee Less
